Novarese, locally pronouncedNuares, is a dialect of theWestern Lombard language spoken in theprovince of Novara (Piedmont).
The dialect is rarely used in the city, where the use ofItalian language is preferred, largely because of high immigration fromMezzogiorno; Novarese is more often used in the surrounding rural areas. There are some elements of transition with thePiedmontese language, particularly on the eastern coasts of theSesia river, creating several transition dialects.
