TheNottinghamshire Women's cricket team is the women's representativecricket team for the Englishhistoric county ofNottinghamshire. They play their home games atJohn Fretwell Sporting Complex, Nettleworth and are captained byTeresa Graves.[1] In 2019, they played in Division One of the final season of theWomen's County Championship, and in 2021 won the East Midlands Group of theWomen's Twenty20 Cup.[2] They are partnered with theEast Midlands regional sideThe Blaze.[3]
Nottinghamshire Women's first recorded match took place in 1934, which they lost to theWomen's Cricket Association.[4] They went on to play various one-off games against nearby teams, such asWarwickshire andLincolnshire.[5]East Midlands Women, which included players from Nottinghamshire, joined theWomen's Area Championship in 1980, and was a founding member of theWomen's County Championship.[6] East Midlands won Division One of the Championship in1999.[7]
Nottinghamshire replaced East Midlands in Division One of the County Championship for the2000 season, finishing second with four out of five wins.[8] Nottinghamshire remained in Division One for a further four seasons, finishing second again in2003, but were relegated in2004.[9] After two seasons in Division 2, Nottinghamshire returned to Division One and remained a consistently mid-table side.[10]
In 2009, Nottinghamshire played in the2009 RSA T20 Cup, a tri-series in Ireland withPakistan andIreland. They finished bottom of the table, but managed one win against Ireland.[11] In2010, they joined theWomen's Twenty20 Cup, placing 2nd in their regional division in their first season.[12] They reached the semi-finals in2013, but lost to eventual winnersKent.[13] In2014, however, Nottinghamshire were crowned the Champions of the tournament, first qualifying for Round 2 unbeaten, then finishing aboveMiddlesex and Kent in the final group on Net Run Rate.[14][15]
Since then, Nottinghamshire have had a brief stint in Division Two in both competitions, in2016 in the Championship and2017 in the T20 Cup. In both instances, they gained promotion at their first attempt.[16][17] In 2019, they finished 6th in theChampionship and 9th in theT20 Cup.[18][19] In2021, they competed in the East Midlands Group of the Twenty20 Cup, and won their region, going unbeaten with 5 wins and 3 matches abandoned due to rain.[20] In 2022, they finished fourth in Group 1 of theTwenty20 Cup.[21] In the2023 Women's Twenty20 Cup, the side reached the group semi-final, where they lost toLancashire.[22] In 2024, the side finished 5th in their group in theTwenty20 Cup and 8th in their group in the newECB Women's County One-Day tournament.[23][24]
