North Turton is acivil parish of theunitary authority ofBlackburn with Darwen inLancashire,England. According to theUnited Kingdom Census 2001 the civil parish has a population of 3,736, increasing to 3,867 at the 2011 Census.[1][2]North Turton is the northern part of the historic area ofTurton. Created by theLocal Government Act 1972, the area is adminstered by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council andNorth Turton Parish Council.
North Turton is in theWest Pennine Moors, between Blackburn in the north and Bolton to the south.
North Turton was created in 1974 from therural part of the formerTurton Urban District. Within this civil parish there are three villages,Edgworth,Chapeltown,Belmont, and severalhamlets, includingEntwistle andQuarlton.
There are three main roads that cross North Turton: theA666 (Blackburn Road), theA675 (Belmont Road), and theB6391 (Chapeltown Road).
There is an infrequent railway commuter service atEntwistle railway station which is served byNorthern, which operate services on theRibble Valley Line. There was a second,Turton and Edgworth railway station but was closed in the 1960s by theBeeching cuts.[3]
