North Benfleet is a village and formercivil parish, now in the parish ofBowers Gifford and North Benfleet, in theBasildon district ofEssex, England, located between the towns ofBasildon to the west andSouth Benfleet to the east. It adjoins the small village ofBowers Gifford. In 1931 the parish had a population of 560.[1] On 1 January 1937 the parish was abolished to formBillericay.[2]
Prior to 1066, North Benfleet was owned byKing Harold, and transferred toWilliam the Conqueror afterwards.[3]
The Church of All Saints is a mixture of 13th, 14th and 15th century construction, which was rebuilt during the 17th century.[4] Although it had fallen into disrepair after many years of disuse, it was returned to regular use in March 2013 by the Orthodox Church,[5] and now has weekly services.
The parish of "Bowers Gifford and North Benfleet" was formed on 1 April 2010.[6]
