TheNiva (Russian:Нива,Northern Sami:Njavejohka) is ariver in theMurmansk Oblast inRussia. It is 36 kilometres (22 mi) long, and has adrainage basin of 12,830 square kilometres (4,950 sq mi).[1] The Niva flows out of theLake Imandra and into theKandalaksha Gulf of theWhite Sea. The town ofKandalaksha is located in theestuary of the Niva.

Its maximum depth is 24 feet (7.3 m).

Between 1936 and 1954 threehydroelectric power stations were built on the Niva. Total capacity is 240MW and annual power production 1390GWh.
