Nilo Murtinho Braga, best known asNilo (April 3, 1903 – February 7, 1975)[1] was aBrazilian association footballer who played in theforward striker role.

Although used to be regarded as acarioca, he was actually bornanother Brazilian state,Pará - and raised since childhood inRio de Janeiro,[2][3][4][5][6] like a famous niece of him, the actressRosamaria Murtinho,[7] who even became aBotafogo supporter due to his uncle importance in this club.[8]

Nilo first played inFluminense youth team, winning in 1916 Youth Rio de Janeiro Championship.[9] Due to his father's transfer to work asharbourmaster at theport of Natal, Nilo would start in adult football by playing forAmérica-RN in 1917, even scoring the goal that secured the this club's first title atRio Grande do Norte State Championship.[10][11][12]

The family settled again in Rio de Janeiro, where he would play and beingcarioca champion for bothFluminense andBotafogo adult teams. He won sixRio de Janeiro State Tournament, four consecutives (1924, 1930, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935) and for three time winning top goalscorer (in 1924, 1927 and 1933). For theBrazilian team, he participated in the1930 FIFA World Cup, playing one match against Yugoslavia.[13]

He died at 71 years old.
