Nikki Glaser (/ˈɡlsər/; born June 1, 1984)[1] is an American stand-up comedian, actress, and television host. She hosted the television seriesNot Safe with Nikki Glaser, which premiered onComedy Central in 2016. She starred in the 2022 reality showWelcome Home Nikki Glaser? onE![2] She hosted the reality TV dating showsBlind Date (2019) onBravo andFBoy Island (2021–2023) onHBO Max andThe CW and its spinoffLovers and Liars on The CW. She also hosted the2025 Golden Globe Awards, which made her the first solo female host in Golden Globes history.[3]

She has acted in theAmy Schumer comedy filmsTrainwreck (2015) andI Feel Pretty (2018) and has appeared on shows such asInside Amy Schumer andA.P. Bio. She has competed in competition shows such asDancing with the Stars (2018) andThe Masked Singer (2022). She has also participated in the roasts ofRob Lowe (2016),Bruce Willis (2018),Alec Baldwin (2019), andTom Brady (2024). She has received nominations at theCritics' Choice Television Awards,Golden Globe Awards,Grammy Awards, andPrimetime Emmy Awards.

Early life

Glaser was born inCincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Julie E. (née Burke) and Edward J. Glaser.[4] She has one sibling, a younger sister named Lauren.[5] She was raised as Catholic and has Irish and German ancestry.[6][7] Glaser spent most of her childhood living in theSt. Louis suburb ofKirkwood, Missouri.[8] She graduated fromKirkwood High School and briefly attended theUniversity of Colorado Boulder[9] before transferring to, and graduating from, theUniversity of Kansas with a degree in English literature.[10]

Career

Stand-up comedy

Glaser started performing stand-up at age 18. Her first jokes were written in college. She recalled in an interview: "I remember it. I was a freshman in college and everyone in my dorm took over the cafeteria as like a study hall. I went in there and instead of studying I just looked at them, judged them and tried to think, 'What wouldSarah Silverman say about these people?' I didn't know how to write jokes — I just knew the stand-ups I knew. I wrote from the perspective of my favorite stand-ups because I didn't know what my perspective was yet."[11]

Glaser performed stand-up onThe Tonight Show with Jay Leno,Conan, and two seasons of the reality seriesLast Comic Standing.[12] Her first feature stand-up special,Perfect, was on Comedy Central on April 9, 2016. Her second special,Bangin', premiered onNetflix on October 1, 2019.[13] In 2024 she performed at theRoast of Tom Brady which aired live onNetflix.[14]

Podcast and radio

From 2011 to 2014, Glaser hosted a podcast with comedianSara Schaefer calledYou Had To Be There.[10] In July 2013, Glaser performed on the radio showThe Debaters, debating the 'Early to Bed' adage.[15] In March 2015, Glaser appeared onGiant Bomb's life-advice podcast,Danswers, talking about subjects such as her experience with co-hostDan Ryckert at college.[16]

Glaser co-hosted the podcastWe Know Nothing with comedianPhil Hanley and roommate/musicianAnya Marina.We Know Nothing is a humorous relationship-based podcast that takes calls from listeners and attempts to give them love advice.[12] From January to October 2016, she hosted the companion podcast to her Comedy Central showNot Safe with Dan St. Germain and Brian Frange. Each episode they discussed sex and relationship issues as well as apples.[17] In February 2018, Glaser began hostingYou Up? With Nikki Glaser, aired onSirius XM's Comedy Central Radio.[18] The show was dropped by Sirius XM on May 7, 2020, and continued as a podcast until its final episode on October 2, 2020.[19] Beginning in 2018, Glaser hosted multiple shows on Sirius XM channel 38 and on the pop music channel 314.

Throughout 2018 and 2019, Glaser appeared on theHoward Stern channels on Sirius XM, including the roast of Ronnie the Limo driver and as a guest on the wrap-up show. On September 24, 2019, she was the feature guest with Howard Stern for a full-length interview. Glaser appeared onThe Joe Rogan Experience on October 3, 2018; October 3, 2019; and August 20, 2020.[20] TheNikki Glaser Podcast is hosted by Glaser, features theme music performed byAnya Marina and was co-hosted by fellow stand-up comedian Andrew Collin until Collin left the show in fall 2022. The first episode released on March 22, 2021.[21] The new cohost is comedian Brian Frange.

Glaser has developed a substantial following on Instagram, making her the 26th most followed woman comedian on the platform in 2022.[22] Glaser regards maintaining a social media presence to be demanding work for comedians, describing it as "a television show that never ends."[23]

Film and television

Glaser played a small role inHenry Phillips's 2009 filmPunching the Clown.[24] She appeared as herself inJordan Brady's 2010 documentaryI Am Comic[25] and its 2014 sequel,I Am Road Comic.[26] On January 29, 2013,Nikki & Sara Live, a weekly television series hosted by Glaser and Schaefer, premiered on MTV.[27] The show was canceled on October 29, 2013, after two seasons.[28] On April 19, 2013, Glaser appeared in the pilot episode ofThose Who Can't, a television series originally created by Amazon Studios.[29] Glaser's character was replaced byMaria Thayer in 2015 when the series was picked up by TruTV.[30]

Glaser appeared onMTV shows such asMoney from Strangers,Awkward. After Show. You're Welcome., andFailosophy.[31] Glaser had a role in theJudd Apatow-directed filmTrainwreck (2015)[32] andI Feel Pretty (2018).[33] On June 2, 2015,Comedy Central approved a sex-themed talk show hosted by Glaser, titledNot Safe with Nikki Glaser. The show premiered on February 9, 2016.[34] The show was picked up by4Music in the United Kingdom. The show was cancelled in November 2016. On September 5, 2016, Glaser appeared on theComedy Central Roast of Rob Lowe as a Roaster.[35] She appeared on theComedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis on July 28, 2018.[36]

On September 12, 2018, Glaser was announced as one of the celebrities competing onseason 27 ofDancing with the Stars. Her professional partner wasGleb Savchenko.[37] They were the first couple eliminated from the competition on September 25. On February 6, 2019, Glaser appeared in the third episode of the third season of the celebrity rap-battle competition showDrop the Mic. She competed against fellow comedianBrad Williams, winning the battle.[38] In November 2019, the dating showBlind Date was revived byBravo, with Glaser as the new host.[39]

On July 30, 2020, Glaser appeared as a panelist onTo Tell the Truth along with co-panelistsJoel McHale,Oliver Hudson, andVivica A. Fox.[40] This was one of her eleven appearances on the show from 2017 through 2021. Glaser is the host ofThe CW comedic dating reality television seriesFBOY Island andLovers and Liars. The former first aired onHBO Max on July 29, 2021.[41] Glaser's life was featured in theE! reality seriesWelcome Home Nikki Glaser?, which first aired May 1, 2022. Glaser appeared as herself in the 7th season of theNetflix reality seriesSelling Sunset. Glaser competed inseason eight ofThe Masked Singer as "Snowstorm". After bestingChris Jericho as "Bride" andAdam Carolla as "Avocado" on "Comedy Roast Night" andLinda Blair as "Scarecrow" andRay Parker Jr. as "Sir Bug a Boo" on "Fright Night", she was eliminated during the semi-finals where she finished in 3rd place.[42]

In July 2023, Glaser appeared onCelebrity Family Feud with her family. They competed againstBebe Rexha and her family.[43] On January 3, 2024, Glaser appeared with her dad E.J. on the first episode ofWe Are Family, the game show hosted byAnthony Anderson.[44] In May 2024, she appeared on Netflix'sThe Roast of Tom Brady.[45] Since October 2024, Glaser has also appeared in the first season ofAre You Smarter than a Celebrity? hosted by Travis Kelce.

Glaser hosted the82nd Golden Globe Awards onCBS on January 5, 2025.[46][47][48]

Personal life

Glaser is in a relationship with producer Chris Convy.[49] As of 2022, she lives in theCentral West End neighborhood ofSt. Louis.[50][51]

She has beensober from alcohol since 2012, and also quit smoking. She credits the writing ofAllen Carr in herrecovery.[52][53][54] Glaser has also divulged that she battled with aneating disorder earlier in her life and sought help through a recovery program.[55]

Glaser is a long-time animal rights activist and has been avegan since 2016.[56] Starting in October 2023, she attended 22 Taylor Swift concerts duringthe Eras Tour.[57]
