Nightjet 2.0 orNew Generation Nightjet are a fleet of overnight trains ordered byAustrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) forNightjet rail services across Europe. The fixed-formationSiemens Viaggio Next Level trains are similar to other locomotive-hauledRailjet trains, but includesleeping car andcouchette carriages for sleeping.[1]

The planned interior design of the night trains was demonstrated by Siemens and ÖBB during September 2022.[2]
Trains are a fixed configuration of seven semi-permanently coupled carriages: two sleeping cars, three couchette cars, and two seated cars.To simplify reversing andshunting operations the first seating carriage is acontrol car.[3] At the opposite end of the train, the last sleeping carriage has a standardgangway connection for coupling to older rolling stock.[3]
Nightjet 2.0 trains were designed for operation up to 250 km/h (160 mph), but will be limited to 230 km/h (140 mph) in use.[3] Two train sets coupled together fit into the standard 400 m (1,300 ft) maximumrailway platform length for passenger trains in Europe.[3] A single trainset can carry up to 254 passengers, and a double-set up to 508 passengers.[3]
Shared couchette accommodation is provided either as fixed four-bed compartments, or as mini-suite capsules similar tocapsule hotel accommodation.[3]
All sleeping car compartments feature an en-suitewet room with combined shower and toilet.[3] One "Comfort Plus" sleeping car compartment per carriage has an en-suite bathroom with en-suite toilet and separate shower.[3]
Carriages are fitted with afire sprinkler system.[3]
In August 2021, the order was increased, from 13 new Nightjet trains, up to 33 new Nightjet trains.[1]
In July 2025, the production ratio betweenSiemens Viaggio Next Level Railjets and Nightjets was adjusted: 33 new Nightjet trains down to 24,[4] and 27Railjet 2.0 [de] up to 40 sets (28 with 7 carriages, plus 12 with 9 carriages).[4]
The Vienna/Innsbruck‒Hamburg-Altona station night train received the first Nightjet 2.0 trains on 10 December 2023.[3]
Vienna‒Bregenz since March 2024.[5]Vienna‒Rome since September 2024.[5]
