TheNicolaus Copernicus Monument in Kraków (Polish:Pomnik Mikołaja Kopernika) is a notable landmark ofKraków,Poland. It memorializes the astronomerCopernicus, who studied at theKraków Academy and whose father came from that city, then the capital of Poland.
The statue, designed by sculptorCyprian Godebski in 1899, was completed in 1900.[1] It originally stood in the courtyard of theJagiellonian University'sCollegium Maius. In 1953 it was moved toKraków'sPlanty Park, in front of theCollegium Witkowski building.
