Nicolae Kovács (Hungarian:Kovács Miklós, 29 December 1911 – 7 July 1977)[a][2] was a Romanian-Hungarianfootball player and coach. Aforward, he was a dual international football player and played both forRomania andHungary.[3] He played in 116 matches and scored 43 goals forClub Atletic Oradea.[4]
For the Romania national team, he won 37caps and participated in the1930,1934 and1938World Cups, being one of five players to have appeared in all three of the pre-war World Cups. The other players wereEdmond Delfour,Étienne Mattler,Bernard Voorhoof andRudolf Bürger, according to officialFIFA match reports. He represented the Hungary national team once, in 1941, also scoring a goal in that game.[5][6]
He was the older brother ofȘtefan Kovács, the famous coach who ledAjax to two European Cups in 1972 and 1973.[7]
