Nicholas Cadden (born 19 September 1996) is a Scottish professionalfootballer who plays as awinger forHibernian. Cadden has previously played forAirdrieonians,Livingston,Ayr United,Greenock Morton andBarnsley. He is the twin brother ofChris Cadden.
Both of the Cadden twins played forMotherwell youth teams, where their father was the under-14s coach.[3] Chris Cadden was offered professional terms by Motherwell, but Nicky was released by the club at that stage.[3]
Following his release fromMotherwell, Nicky Cadden joinedAirdrieonians.[3] He made his first team debut on 16 November 2013 againstDunfermline and scored his first competitive goal over two years later on 26 December 2015 againstPeterhead. He left at the end of the 2015–16 season.
Cadden signed forWest Lothian sideLivingston in summer 2016 ahead of the club's first and only year inScottish League One.[4] He scored on his first competitive match for theLions, in a 3–2 loss to St Mirren.[5] He made his league debut in August against former side Airdrieonians and went on to play 33 more games in his first season, scoring 6 goals; Livingston were promoted as champions.[6]
In the2017–18 Scottish Championship, Cadden appeared 26 times (around half from the bench) as the club finished runners-up, and was then selected for all four playoff matches,Livi defeatingDundee United andPartick Thistle to progress to thePremiership.[7]
On 31 January 2019, Cadden moved toScottish Championship clubAyr United until the end of the2018–19 season.[8]
In June 2019, Cadden signed forGreenock Morton on a one-year contract.[9]
Cadden joinedLeague Two clubForest Green Rovers on 3 July 2020.[10] After not conceding a goal all month and contributing to four out of his side's five goals, the attacking wing-back was awardedthe league's Player of the Month award for September 2021.[11] Following Forest Green Rovers' title winning campaign,[12] Cadden was named in both the EFL League Two Team of the Season at theEFL Awards[13] and thePFA League Two Team of the Year.[14] Cadden was offered a new contract at the end of the2021–22 season.[15]
On 11 July 2022, Cadden joined newly relegatedLeague One clubBarnsley on a two-year deal.[16] On 17 May 2024, the club announced he would be released in the summer when his contract expired.[17]
On 6 August 2024, Cadden joinedScottish Premiership sideHibernian on a three-year deal.[18] He links up with his twin brother,Chris, who has been at the club since 2021.
Nicky's twin brotherChris Cadden currently plays alongside him at Hibernian. Their father Steve won alower division title withAlbion Rovers.[19] The brothers attendedOur Lady's High School, Motherwell, one year group ahead of fellow footballerKieran Tierney.[20][21]
