Neonteichos (Ancient Greek:Νέον τεῖχος, lit. 'new wall'), was anAeolian town not far from the coast ofMysia, situated between theHermus and the town ofLarissa, from which its distance was only 30stadia.[1] It is said to have been founded by theAeolians, as a temporary fort on their first arrival inAsia Minor. According toStrabo,[2] the place was more ancient even thanCyme; but according to a statement in the Vita Homeri[3] it was built eight years later than Cyme, as a protection against thePelasgians of Larissa.[4][5][6][7]
Its site is tentatively located nearYanıkköy,Asiatic Turkey.[8][9]
