Negudar

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
13th-century Golden Horde general under Berke

Negudar (also known asNikudar orNeguder) was aMongol general underBerke, and aGolden HordeNoyan. With many other Golden Horde generals, he embracedIslam in the late 13th century. He subsequently took the Muslim name ofAhmad Khan.[1]

Before theconflicts between Berke and Hulagu, Negudar fostered peace inEastern Khorasan and its surrounding areas in Central Asia. Neguder with other generals of theMongol Empire raided the northwest parts of theDelhi Sultanate in the 1230s. When war hostilities broke out between Berke andHulagu in 1260, Negudar assumed control over a sizeable portion of Berke's forces[2] primarily inGhazni and easternAfghanistan.

Negudar and his forces ultimately settled in various parts of modern-day Afghanistan[3] includingKabul[4] andHerat. Mongols in Afghanistan adopted his name later as they merged intoChagatai Khanate during the reign ofAlghu. Today,Nikudari, an archaic form of the Mongolian language extinct in Mongolia, is preserved in Afghanistan and named after Negudar.
