Khari Cain (born April 19, 1978), professionally known asNeedlz, is an American record producer and songwriter.
Cain was born on April 19, 1978, inLansing, Michigan.[1] He began toDJ while anundergraduate inFlorida Agricultural and Mechanical University andFlorida State University. He majored in the graduate music business program atNew York University'sSteinhardt School and originally intended to pursue a career inartist and repertoire (A&R).[1] After attaining aninternship withBad Boy Records, he was inspired to begin a career in record production.[2] With the help of A&R Folayan Knight, Needlz associated withBlack Entertainment Television (BET) andMTV and created theme songs forRap City andSuckafree Sundays, respectively.[1] Fellow record producerSwizz Beatz assisted Needlz to "exposure" by collaborating in album production, including Cassidy'sI'm a Hustla and Swizz BeatzOne Man Band Man.[3]
Needlz chiefly produces songs in thehip hop genre. He describes his style as "anoxymoron: clean and dirty at the same time".[1] He usesAkai MPC2000XL andPro Tools to producebeats and utilizesKurzweil K2661 and theRoland MKS-80 forsynthesizers.[2]He has endorsed theNative InstrumentsMaschine.[4]
