Neal Edelstein is an independent film producer and is known as an early technology adopter.
Neal Edelstein was born inWinnetka, Illinois, United States.[1] He graduated from theNew Trier High School.[2]
Edelstein began his film career inLos Angeles, California in the early 1990s. In 1997, he producedDavid Lynch's segment in the French filmLumiere and Company, shot with the original Lumiere brothers's camera.[1] After completion of the film, Edelstein and Lynch became partners inThe Picture Factory, where Edelstein producedThe Straight Story andMulholland Drive, as well as worked with Lynch to conceive and launch the website DavidLynch.com.[1]
Later, Edelstein formedMacari/Edelstein Filmed Entertainment withNew Line Cinema executive Mike Macari. Their first project together was the American remake of the Japanese horror filmThe Ring,[3] followed by the sequelThe Ring Two.[1] Edelstein was instrumental in creating theviral marketing campaign forThe Ring with directorGore Verbinski. Other film credits include Disney-distributedThe Invisible, directed byDavid Goyer, andShelter, starringJulianne Moore andJonathan Rhys Meyers.[1]
Additionally, Edelstein is the founder ofHooked Digital Media,[4] aproduction company that delivers filmed stories for the mobile and tablet generation. In 2013 they releasedHaunting Melissa, a storytellingiOS app that rolls out new chapters and content of varying duration.[5]
