National Highway 26 (NH 26), (previously National Highway 43), is aNational Highway inIndia, that connectsBargarh inOdisha and passes throughOdisha to connect withRajapulova inVizianagaram district ofAndhra Pradesh. It connects National Highway 5 and National Highway 6 and transverses theEastern Ghats.[1][2]
The total length of the highway is 555 km (345 mi). It starts fromNH53 atBargarh & ends atNH16 atRajapulova. Following is the statewise Break upAndhra Pradesh has 90.25 km (56.08 mi) long part.[2]Chhattisgarh has 132.25 km (82.18 mi) long part.Odisha has 332.5 km (206.6 mi) long part.
The northern end atBorigumma is a junction of 2 highways: NH26 to Bargarh andNH63 towardsJagdalpur. The southern end atRajapulova is onNH16 which runs betweenKolkata andChennai.
Part of the road betweenKishtwar toKeylong follows the course of theChenab River along a notoriously dangerous stretch colloquially known as the 'Cliffhanger' due to its narrow unpaved surface winding high above gorges of thePangi Valley in the Himalayas.[3]
