Australian racing cyclist
Nathan Peter Haas (born 12 March 1989) is an Australian cyclist. He competed as a professional road racer until the end of 2021. He started competing full time ingravel events 2022.[ 5]
Born inBrisbane ,Queensland ,Australia , Haas was originally amountain biker , and represented Australia in twoUCI World Championships . However, in 2009, Haas switched toroad racing .
Praties (2009–2011)[ edit ] In 2011, after dominating Australia's domesticNational Road Series withGenesys Wealth Advisers teammateSteele Von Hoff , Haas won theHerald Sun Tour .[ 6] [ 7] Haas also won theJapan Cup ,[ 8] a race featuring numerousUCI ProTeams . After his victory, Haas turned professional, signing withGarmin–Barracuda .[ 9] [ 10]
Garmin–Barracuda (2012–2015)[ edit ] During Haas' first professional season, he struggled with severesaddle sores .[ 11] FollowingJonathan Tiernan-Locke 's doping ban, Haas was retroactively awarded the2012 Tour of Britain title; he originally finished second to Tiernan-Locke.[ 12] During the 2013 season, Haas finished sixth overall at theTour de Langkawi ,[ 13] and competed in his firstGrand Tour , theGiro d'Italia .[ 14] While riding the2014 Tour Down Under , Haas garnered his firstUCI World Tour point,[ 15] before finishing the race fifth overall.[ 16]
He was named in the start list for the2015 Tour de France .[ 17]
Dimension Data (2016–2017)[ edit ] In the autumn of 2015Team Dimension Data announced that Haas had signed with them for the 2016 season, joining former team-mateTyler Farrar at the South African outfit.[ 18]
Team Katusha–Alpecin (2018–2019)[ edit ] In February 2018, Haas won stage 2 of theTour of Oman in an uphill sprint finish and moved into the overall leader's jersey.[ 19] It was his first victory since 2016 and his first forTeam Katusha–Alpecin . He finished fifth overall in the race, winning the points classification in the process. He also recorded a podium placing at the Tour of Turkey.[ 20]
