Nathalie Teirlinck (Dutch pronunciation:[naːtaːˌliˈteːrlɪŋk]; born 1985) is aBelgian film director and screenwriter.

In 2007, Teirlinck studied at the film department of theRoyal Academy of Fine Arts inGhent. Her three short films,Anémone (2006),Juliette (2007), andVenus vs. Me (2010), were all well received at international film festivals. BothAnémone andJuliette were awarded Best Short Film at theFlanders International Film Festival Ghent.Anémone was nominated at theLocarno Festival, andVenus vs. Me won the V.A.F. WildCard as well as theEuropean Film Academy Award in the wake of theBerlin Film Festival in 2010.

After this, Teirlinck also directed music videos forNovastar,Lady Linn,Admiral Freebee,Amenra, and other artists. She made her theatrical directing debut with the 2009 productionSend All Your Horses, and she went on to direct three more productions:Yesterday (2011),Staring Girl (2012), andSlumberland (2015). The last two were nominated for theTheaterfestival, andSlumberland won theMusic Theater Now award inNew York City in 2015. Since 2012, Teirlinck has also been a guest instructor at the film department of her alma mater, The Royal Academy of Fine Arts, in Ghent.

Teirlinck's first feature-length film,Le Passé devant nous (international title:Past Imperfect), was released in2016, with Canadian actressEvelyne Brochu in the lead role.[1] The film was produced by Savage Film—famous for producing such films asBullhead—and was a co-production betweenDenmark and theNetherlands. The script won theEurimages Award atCineMart during theInternational Film Festival Rotterdam in 2015,[2] and, in September 2017, won twoEnsor Awards: the Industry Award and Best Debut. In 2018 Nathalie Teirlinck was awarded the Culture Prize from the City of Ghent.

Teirlinck is originally fromBrussels, but has been living inGhent since 2006.[3] In addition to her nativeDutch, she also speaksFrench[4][5] andEnglish.
