Natasha Johnson (born 1977/1978) is an American politician and businesswoman who has served in theCalifornia State Assembly from the63rd district since September 2025, after winning aspecial election to replaceBill Essayli. She previously served on the city council ofLake Elsinore, California, including three terms as mayor, from 2012 to 2025.

Career

Johnson previously worked inpersonal finance and most recently in amarketing role forNavy Federal Credit Union.[2][3]

Lake Elsinore City Council

Johnson was first elected to theLake Elsinore city council in 2012.[2] Johnson served as mayor for the city three times, and as mayorpro tem three times.[4]

In 2018, she served her second term as mayor, having beenselected by fellow councilmembers.[5] She again served as mayor in 2023.[6] In 2018, she voted unanimously with the city council to express the city's opposition toSB 54, which prevents state and local law enforcement agencies from using their resources on behalf of federal immigration enforcement agencies includingICE.[7]

California State Assembly

Following incumbentRepublicanBill Essayli's resignation from theCalifornia State Assembly, Johnson announced her campaign for thespecial election to fill his term.[8] Essayli endorsed her the day after resigning.[9] She advanced from theblanket primary to a run-off againstDemocratic candidate Chris Shoults.[10] She declared victory over Shoults on election night and was sworn in on September 8, 2025.[11][12]
