Nass (Islam)

Nass (Arabic:نَصّ,romanizednaṣṣ) is anArabic word variously translated as "a known, clear legal injunction," a "divine decree",[1] a "designation",[2] "written law" as opposed to unwritten law,[3] "canonical text" that forbids or requires,[4]a "textual proof".[5]

InShia Islam (Twelver andIsma'ili),nass refers specifically to the designation of an infallibleImam by a previous infallible Imam.[2]
