Narusawa (鳴沢村,Narusawa-mura) is avillage located inYamanashi Prefecture,Japan. As of 1 June 2019[update], the village had an estimatedpopulation of 3,152 in 1257 households,[1] and apopulation density of 32.6 persons per km2. The total area of the village is 89.58 square kilometres (34.59 sq mi).

Narusawa is located in southern Yamanashi Prefecture, in the foothills ofMount Fuji. The entire village is located within the borders of theFuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.

Climate

The city has a climate characterized by characterized by hot and humid summers, and relatively mild winters (Köppen climate classificationCfb). The average annual temperature in Kōshū is 9.6 °C. (Note that the preceding climate information is for a distant location in the same prefecture as Narusawa village that has a very different climate and elevation from Narusawa.) The average annual rainfall is 1751 mm with September as the wettest month.[2]

History

The place name "Narusawa" is mentioned in theKamakura period chronicleAzuma Kagami as a hamlet on the road connectingKai Province withSuruga Province. During theEdo period, all of Kai Province wastenryō territory under direct control of theTokugawa shogunate. With the establishment of the modern municipalities system in the earlyMeiji period on July 1, 1889, the village of Narusawa was created within Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture.
