At the time of the 2006 National Census, the city's population was 7,818 in 1,574 households, when it was in the formerAsaluyeh District ofKangan County.[8] The following census in 2011 counted 11,503 people in 2,433 households.[9] The 2016 census measured the population of the city as 18,837 people in 4,632 households,[4] by which time the district had been separated from the county in the establishment ofAsaluyeh County. Nakhl Taqi was transferred to the newCentral District.[6]
