NGC 846(also known asNGC 847) is abarred spiral galaxy located around 235 millionlight-years away in theconstellation Andromeda.[1][3][2] NGC 846 was discovered on November 22nd, 1876 by theFrenchastronomerÉdouard Stephan, and it has a diameter of around 162,000 light-years.[1][3][2] NGC 846 is not known to have muchstar-formation, and it is not known to have anactive galactic nucleus.[1][3][4]
Twosupernovae have been observed in NGC 846:
