NGC 682 is alenticular galaxy in theconstellation ofCetus. Its velocity with respect to thecosmic microwave background is 5,338 ± 26 km/s, which corresponds to aHubble distance of 78.7 ± 5.5 Mpc (~257 millionlight-years).[1] It was discovered by German-British astronomerWilliam Herschel on 30 December 1785.[2]

Onesupernova has been observed in NGC 682:SN 2023xtg (Type Ia, mag. 18.1) was discovered byKōichi Itagaki on 14 November 2023.[3]
