NGC 6215 (also known asPGC 59112) is aspiral galaxy located in the constellationAra. It is designated asSA(s)c in thegalaxy morphological classification scheme. It was discovered by astronomerJohn Herschel on 9 July 1836.[1][2][3]
NGC 6215 is part ofgalaxy group NGC 6221/15, which includesbarred spiral galaxyNGC 6221 and threedwarf galaxies. Adouble-strandedbridge ofneutral hydrogen gas connects NGC 6215 and 6221 as a result of their interaction, and Dwarf 3 of the three dwarf galaxies may have formed from the bridging gas.[4]
