NGC 5939 is aspiral galaxy in theconstellation ofUrsa Minor. Its velocity with respect to thecosmic microwave background is 6684 ± 4 km/s, which corresponds to aHubble distance of 98.59 ± 6.90Mpc (~322 millionlight-years).[1] It was discovered by American astronomerLewis Swift on 11 July 1883.[2]

NGC 5939 is part of a trio of galaxies: The other two galaxies in thegroup areIC 1129 and UGC 9896.[8]
