NGC 568, also commonly referred asIC 1709 is an unbarredlenticular galaxy[2] in the constellation ofSculptor.[5] The galaxy is 266 millionlight-years fromEarth[6] and was discovered byJohn Herschel on November 29, 1837, andLewis Swift, an American astronomer who listed it and gave it the nameIC 1709 on September 4, 1897.[1]
