NGC 533 is anelliptical galaxy in the constellationCetus. It was discovered on October 8, 1785, byWilliam Herschel. It was described as "pretty bright, pretty large, round, gradually brighter middle" byJohn Louis Emil Dreyer, the compiler of theNew General Catalogue.[4]
