NGC 46, occasionally referred to asPGC 5067596, is astar located approximately 1,420light-years from theSolar System in the constellationPisces. It was first discovered on October 22, 1852, byIrishastronomerEdward Joshua Cooper, who incorrectly identified it as anebula.[4]
