NGC 449 is aspiral galaxy of type (R')S? located in the constellationPisces. It was discovered on November 11, 1881 byÉdouard Stephan. It was described byDreyer as "very faint, very small, round, very little brighter middle, very faint star involved."[2]

NGC 449 is anactive galaxy, specifically aSeyfert galaxy.[3] Thesupermassive black hole at the center of NGC 449 is1.32×107 M, and matter from itsaccretion disk is currently accreting at a rate of2.54×10−2 M per year.[3]
