Galaxy in the constellation Leo Minor
NGC 3294 is aspiral galaxy in the constellationLeo Minor .[ 5] It was discovered byWilliam Herschel on Mar 17, 1787.[ 9] It is a member of theLeo II Groups , a series of galaxies andgalaxy clusters strung out from the right edge of theVirgo Supercluster .[ 10] The galaxy is located at a distance of 98[ 4] millionlight years and is receding with a heliocentricradial velocity of 1,586 km/s .[ 3] Themorphological class of NGC 3294 is SA(rs)bc,[ 7] which means this is a spiral galaxy with no centralbar (SA), an incomplete inner ring structure (rs), and moderately woundspiral arms (bc).
This galaxy has been host to a pair of supernova events:
