NGC 298 is aspiral galaxy in the constellationCetus. It was discovered on September 27, 1864, byAlbert Marth.[2] NGC 298 is situated close to thecelestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from bothhemispheres in certain times of the year. Given its B magnitude of 14.7, NGC 298 is visible with the help of atelescope having anaperture of 20inches (500millimetre) or more.[3]
Onesupernova has been observed in NGC 298: SN 1986K (type II, mag. 16.5) was discovered by Thomas Schildknecht on 1 September 1986.[4][5]
