NGC 275 is abarred spiral galaxy located approximately 63 millionlight-years from theSolar System[2] in the constellationCetus. It is one of a pair of galaxies, the other beingNGC 274. It was discovered on October 9, 1828, byJohn Herschel.[3]

The galaxy was described as "very faint, small, round, southeastern of 2" byJohn Dreyer in theNew General Catalogue, with the other of the two galaxies beingNGC 274.[3]
