NGC 1032 is aspiral galaxy that is about 117 million light-years away in theconstellationCetus. It was discovered on 18 December1783 byGerman-British astronomerWilliam Herschel.

According to theSIMBAD database, NGC 1032 is anActive Galaxy Nucleus Candidate, i.e. it has a compact region at the center of a galaxy that emits a significant amount of energy across the electromagnetic spectrum, with characteristics indicating that this luminosity is not produced by the stars.[4]

Onesupernova has been observed in NGC 1032. In January 2005,SN 2005E was discovered, initially classified as atype Ib or type Ic.[5][6] However, later analysis determined that it was instead acalcium-rich supernova, a (then) new type ofastronomical transient.[7]
