InAmerican football,most valuable player (MVP) awards are given by various entities to theNational Football League (NFL) player who is considered the most valuable during the regular season. Organizations which issue an NFL MVP award include theAssociated Press (AP) and thePro Football Writers of America (PFWA).[1] Since the 2011 season, the NFL has held the annualNFL Honors ceremony, which recognizes the winner of the Associated Press MVP award.[2]
The first award described as a most valuable player award was theJoe F. Carr Trophy, presented by the NFL from1938 to1946. Other organizations that previously issued an MVP includeThe Sporting News,United Press International (UPI), and theJim Thorpe Trophy by theNewspaper Enterprise Association (NEA).
