TheNational Automotive Parts Association (NAPA, also known asNAPA Auto Parts), is an Americanretailers' cooperative distributing automotive replacement parts, accessories, and service items throughout North America. Established in 1925, NAPA is a division ofAtlanta-basedGenuine Parts Company.
NAPA Auto Parts was established in 1925 inAtlanta.[1] Some NAPA Auto Parts stores are owned and operated by GPC, but most are independently owned and operated.[2]
In September 2008, NAPA Auto Parts acquired two distributors based in Hawaii, taking control of eight stores and warehouses.[3]
In 2012, GPC acquired Quaker City Motor Parts Company, distributor to 271 NAPA Auto Parts stores in the mid-Atlantic region, to become the sole remaining member of the National Automotive Parts Association.[4][5][6]
NAPA launched its first store in Australia in 2017.[7]
In 2024, Genuine Parts Company acquired Motor Parts & Equipment Corporation, the largest independent owner of NAPA Auto Parts stores in the U.S. The deal put GPC in control of 181 stores across Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.[8][9]
There are over 6,000 NAPA Auto Parts stores in the United States, approximately 1,500 of which are owned byGenuine Parts Company. The remainder are independently owned.[10] 15,000 NAPA AutoCare repair facilities are in operation which provide vehicle maintenance and repair services.
Outside the United States, NAPA operates in Canada through the UAP (United Auto Parts) division of Genuine Parts Company and NAPA Autopro repair facilities in Canada, Mexico and other locations throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.[11]
As of 2020, the NAPA brand includes 12 stores operating in Australia. Seven other businesses owned by General Parts Company, including Ashdown-Ingram and Covs, have been rebranded under the NAPA name.[12][13]

NAPA has sponsoredauto racing drivers and teams. It sponsoredKelly Moore and Moore Racing during the early 2000s.[14][15] NAPA began sponsoringMichael Waltrip (initially viaDale Earnhardt, Inc. and laterBill Davis Racing)[16][17][18] in 2001, and continued withMichael Waltrip Racing (MWR) in 2007.[19] In 2010, NAPA sponsored MWR andRyan Truex for theK&N Pro Series East.[20] NAPA ended a three-year agreement with MWR to sponsorMartin Truex Jr.'s No. 56Toyota Camry in theNASCAR Cup Series after one season, following a team orders scandal during the2013 Federated Auto Parts 400.[21]
NAPA became an associate sponsor ofRon Capps and Don Schumacher Racing in 2007, and upgraded to primary sponsor status in 2008.[22][23] The partnership shared 43 wins and championships in 2016 and 2021, and NAPA became a sponsor of Ron Capps Motorsports when Capps became a team owner in late 2021.[24] NAPA began sponsoringChase Elliott's No. 9Chevrolet Camaro andHendrick Motorsports in 2014.[19] In 2016, NAPA became the majority sponsor of Elliott and the No. 24 Chevrolet team in the Cup Series with Hendrick,[25] and in 2020, the agreement was extended through the 2022 season.[26] NAPA also began sponsoringAlexander Rossi and cars for Andretti Autosport in theIndyCar Series in 2016.[27][28] The company has also sponsoredMcAnally–Hilgemann Racing.[29][30]
Outside of motorsports, NAPA sponsors theAtlanta Braves andAtlanta United FC.[31][32] Previously, NAPA was a sponsor ofMajor League Soccer viaSoccer United Marketing and theMexico national football team, starting in 2007.[33][34] NAPA was the title sponsor ofarena football'sArenaBowl XXIII in 2010.[35]
The Braves also announced Thursday that it has signed a long-term sponsorship extension with NAPA, which has partnered with the Braves since the team moved to Turner Field in 1997.
