Inenzymology, aN2-(2-carboxyethyl)arginine synthase (EC2.5.1.66) is anenzyme thatcatalyzes thechemical reaction
Thus, the twosubstrates of this enzyme areD-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate andL-arginine, whereas its twoproducts areN2-(2-carboxyethyl)-L-arginine andphosphate.
This enzyme belongs to the family oftransferases, specifically those transferring aryl or alkyl groups other than methyl groups. Thesystematic name of this enzyme class isglyceraldehyde-3-phosphate:L-arginine N2-(2-hydroxy-3-oxopropyl) transferase (2-carboxyethyl-forming). Other names in common use includeCEAS,N2-(2-carboxyethyl)arginine synthetase,CEA synthetase,glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate:L-arginine 2-N-(2-hydroxy-3-oxopropyl), andtransferase (2-carboxyethyl-forming). This enzyme participates inclavulanic acid biosynthesis.
As of late 2007, twostructures have been solved for this class of enzymes, withPDB accession codes2IHT and2IHV.
