Formiminoglutamic acid (FIGLU;conjugate base, formiminoglutamate) is an intermediate in thecatabolism ofL-histidine toL-glutamic acid. It thus is also abiomarker forintracellular levels offolate. The FIGLU test is used to identifyvitamin B₁₂ deficiency, folate deficiency, andliver failure orliver disease.[1][2] It is elevated with folate trapping, where it is accompanied by decreasedmethylmalonic acid, increased folate and a decrease inhomocysteine.[3]
