Mustafakemalpaşa is a municipality anddistrict ofBursa Province,Turkey.[2] Its area is 1,641 km2,[3] and its population is 102,284 (2022).[1] TheMustafakemalpaşa River (Mustafakemalpaşa Çayı) flows through it.
The ancientGreek name of the town wasKremaste (Κρεμαστή inAncient Greek, Kırmasti in modernTurkish), under the Kingdom ofBithynia. Around 300 AD, the town became important when it became a Christiandiocese. In 1336, the town was incorporated into theOttoman Empire byOrhan. From 1867 until 1922, Kırmasti was part ofHüdavendigâr vilayet. The town was devastated in 1920 during theGreco-Turkish war. After theWar of Independence, led byMustafa Kemal Atatürk, the town council decided to rename the cityMustafakemalpaşa in his honor.
