TheMuseo Pio Cristiano is one of theVatican Museums. It houses various works of Christian antiquity such asThe Good Shepherd.[1]
The museum was founded byPope Pius IX in 1854,[2] two years after the establishment of thePontifical Commission for Sacred Archaeology byGiuseppe Marchi andGiovanni Battista de Rossi. That Commission's intended aim was to excavate and conserve thecatacombs of Rome. Its collections are made up of excavated items which could not be conserved on their original sites.
It is divided into two halves
