Mukesh Bhatt (born 5 June 1952[1]) is anIndianfilm producer andactor who has produced severalBollywood films. He is the younger brother ofMahesh Bhatt, and also the co-owner of the production companyVishesh Films, set up in 1986.
Bhatt is the son ofNanabhai Bhatt (1915–1999), aHindi film director and producer. His father was a Gujarati Brahmin and mother aGujarati Muslim.[2] Nanabhai's brother, Balwant Bhatt (1909–1965) was also a Hindifilm director. He is married to Nilima Bhatt. Bhatt has one daughter named Sakshi and a sonVishesh;[3]Vishesh Films was named after him. For 30 years Mukesh along with his brother Mahesh produced movies under the banner of Vishesh Films. However owing to differences between the brothers, Mukesh Bhatt took over Vishesh Films and in May 2021, it was publicly announced that Mahesh Bhatt was no more associated with the firm.[4][5]
Bhatt's first film as producer was the successful filmJurm (1990), starringVinod Khanna.[6] He later collaborated withGulshan Kumar to produce the love storyAashiqui (1990), starring debutantesRahul Roy andAnu Aggarwal, which was directed by his brotherMahesh. The films followingAashiqui, includingDil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991) andSadak (1991) starringPooja Bhatt,Aamir Khan andSanjay Dutt, were all big hits; the films were released under the banner of his production companyVishesh Films.[6]
Bhatt produced more films in the following years, such as,Sir (1993) starringNaseeruddin Shah,Naajayaz (1995),Criminal (1995), andFareb (1996). The 1998 filmGhulam, was yet another success for the producer.[6] In 1999,Sangharsh starringPreity Zinta andAkshay Kumar was successful venture for the producer, while the horror filmsRaaz (2002), and its sequelRaaz – The Mystery Continues (2009), and its sequelRaaz 3 (2012), and its sequelRaaz Reboot (2016) both were received positively. In 2004, he introduced his nephewEmraan Hashmi on the big screen with the filmFootpath, also starringBipasha Basu. His recent ventures as producer include,Zeher (2005),Kalyug (2005),Gangster (2006),Woh Lamhe (2006),Awarapan (2007), and its sequelAwarapan 2 (2026) andJannat (2008) and its sequelJannat 2 (2012) and its sequelJannat 3 (2026), andTum Mile (2009) and its sequelTum Mile 2 (2026) andCrook (2010). andMurder (2004). and its sequelMurder 2 (2011). and its sequelMurder 3 (2013). and its sequelMurder 4 (2025) andAashiqui (1990) and its sequelAashiqui 2 (2013) and its sequelAashiqui 3 (2026) andMr. X (2015) andBullett Vijay (2026) andMr. I (2026)[6]
He, along with his brother Mahesh, producedMr. X (2015) andHamari Adhuri Kahani (2015) with Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan in leading roles. It is based on the love story of Bhatt's parents Nanabhai Bhatt and Shirin Mohammad Ali, along with his stepmother.
