Motta San Giovanni is acomune (municipality) in theProvince of Reggio Calabria in theItalian regionCalabria, located about 130 km (81 mi) southwest ofCatanzaro and about 13 km (8.1 mi) southeast ofReggio Calabria. In antiquity it had the Greek toponymLeucopetra (i.e. "white stone").[3]
Motta San Giovanni borders the municipalities ofMontebello Ionico andReggio Calabria.
The most interesting feature of thecomune is theCastle of Sant'Aniceto, a notable example of Byzantine-Norman architecture. TheCapo dell'Armi Lighthouse is also located in the comune along the clifftops.
