Montiaceae are afamily offlowering plants, with about 17 genera and about 230 known species,[3] ranging from smallherbaceous plants toshrubs. The family has acosmopolitan distribution.
The family Montiaceae was newly adopted in theAPG III system and includes members of theCaryophyllales formerly listed inPortulacaceae.[2] It is known by thecommon names ofspring beauty family or themontia family.[4][5]
