Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve is located nearYosemite National Park withinMono County, in easternCalifornia. It was established in 1981[2] by the California State Legislature to preserve the naturallimestone "tufa tower" formations atMono Lake.[3]
California State Park Rangers were charged with conducting interpretive talks and tours along the shores ofMono Lake, as well as protecting the resources. In 1984 the Federal Government designated surrounding lands as theMono Basin National Scenic Area.[4][5] Since that time visitor services have been offered as a cooperative effort between these two agencies, as well as theMono Lake Committee.[6]
