Molly Tarlov is an American actress. She played the role of Sadie Saxton onMTV's TV seriesAwkward.

Early life

Tarlov was born and raised inManhattan, inNew York City,[3] to film producer, attorney and wine makerMark Tarlov[4] and mother Judy Roberts.[5] She is the younger of two daughters.[6] On her mother's side, both of her grandparents wereJewish immigrants, her grandfather from Russia, and her grandmother escaping Europe on the last boat from France prior to WWII.[7]

As a child, Tarlov appeared in the musicalBye Bye Birdie at theLittle Red School House. She attended the arts camp,Interlochen Center for the Arts and aNYU summer program in Paris. Tarlov graduated fromBennington College with aB.A. inTheatre Arts[6] in 2008.[8]

After college, Tarlov attended theAtlantic Theater Company andLAByrinth Theater Company, where she wrote as well as acted in the LAByrinth Master Class.[6]

Tarlov's television debut was a bit part oniCarly in 2009. In 2010, she appeared in the role of Caitlin on theABC Family seriesHuge, which was written and created byMy So-Called Life'sWinnie Holzman and her daughterSavannah Dooley.[6]

Tarlov's breakthrough role was as mean girl Sadie Saxton[9][10] in theMTV original series,Awkward, which debuted in 2011.[11] Tarlov's character was notable for her intense dislike of the main character, Jenna, played byAshley Rickards, and for her complex struggles with weight and her own neuroses and insecurities.[12][13][14][15] Sadie was also noteworthy for nasty putdowns that were followed by her signature, "You're Welcome!" on topics from bulimia, being gay, and appropriate behavior.[16][17] The character inspired Twitter feeds andGIFs.[18]

Film

In 1999, Tarlov had a role in the feature film,Simply Irresistible, which was directed by her father.[19]

In 2014, Tarlov starred in the movieG.B.F., a teen comedy written by George Northy and directed byDarren Stein(Jawbreaker).[20]

In August 2012, Tarlov recorded anIt Gets Better Project video clip.[21]

In May 2015, Tarlov, along with her co-stars fromAwkward and other MTV shows did a stylized promo for theScream where they were all shown bloodied and killed. Tarlov was skewered by a fire poker against a wall behindKatie Stevens fromFaking It.[22]

In July 2015, Tarlov co-starred inEden xo's music video for the single "The Weekend." The video also featuredBonnie McKee andRicky Dillon.[23]

Personal life

On June 23, 2015, Tarlov revealed that she was engaged to trailer editor and former drummer Alexander Noyes, who was in the bandsHonor Society andJonas Brothers.[24][2] They were married on March 4, 2017.[25] Tarlov and Noyes welcomed their first son in August, 2020.[26]

Tarlov's sister,Jessica Tarlov, is aDemocratic strategist who is a political commentator and is also a rotating co-host ofThe Five.[27]
