Moldova, following itsindependence from the Soviet Union in 1991, made itsParalympic Games début at the1996 Summer Paralympics inAtlanta, where it sent a five-man delegation to compete intrack and field,powerlifting and table tennis. The country has competed in every subsequent edition of theSummer Paralympics, with small delegations. It has never taken part in theWinter Paralympics.[1]

Moldova's two Paralympic medals so far were both won in 1996.Nikolai Tchoumak won bronze in the men's 10,000m race in the T12 category (severe visual impairment), whileVladimir Polkanov won bronze in the men's singles in table tennis, category 8.[2]
