Mohsen Araki (Persian:محسن اراکی;Arabic:محسن الأراكي) is an Iranian scholar, cleric, university lecturer and politician. He is currently a member of theAssembly of Experts and also a member of theExpediency Discernment Council. He is a prominent Iranian scholar and one of the students of the Islamic thinkerMohammad Baqir al-Sadr.
In 2022, during2021–2022 Iranian protests, he advocated for the death penalty for protestors. He argued those who participate in the protests should be found guilty of "corruption on earth".[1]
He was born inNajaf,Iraq. He benefited from theIslamic seminary inNajaf andQom. He speaks fluentArabic andEnglish and has authored dozens of books in Persian, Arabic, and English. He was the personal representative ofAyatollahAli Khamenei (theSupreme Leader ofIran) in London and also the Head of theIslamic Centre of England until 2004.[2]
