TheMizoram Premier League (also known asGIG MOTORS Mizoram Premier League[1] for sponsorship reasons) is the higheststate-levelfootball league inMizoram,India.[2][3][4] On a national scale, it is the 5th tier ofIndian football league system.[5] The competition is conducted by theMizoram Football Association, the official football body of Mizoram,[2] withTetea Hmar as its secretary and key promoter.[6][7] The league started on 24 October 2012 for the first time.[8]

Mizoram Premier League has eight clubs.[9] The four top clubs qualify for the MPL automatically[10] While the other 4 teams will be decided via a playoff .[10] The top 4 teams from the play-off shall qualify for the MPL[10]The 8 clubs playing for season 12 of MPL areAizawl FC,Chanmari FC, Mizoram Police FC, SYS FC, MLS FC, Kanan FC, Dinthar FC and Saikhamakawn FC.[11]

On 14 June 2012 it was announced that the Mizoram Football Association had signed a five-year 1.25 crore deal with ZONET Cable TV Pvt. Ltd.[2][14] The deal was signed by Mizoram Football Association presidentLal Thanzara, while Zonet Cable TV Director R.K. Lianzuala (of Bethlehem Veng) signed for Zonet.[2] The deal between the MFA and Zonet is one of the most lucrative sports deals in theNorth East of India.[2] In 2017 it was announced the channel signed another 5 year extension with Mizoram Football Association Worth 1.5 Crores.[15] Mizoram Premier League (MPL) season 8 has been delivered to SONY by Zonet Cable TV and streamed live onSonyLIV. MPL is the first state league to be televised on a national television platform.[16]
