Mitredon is an extinct genus ofcynodonts which existed in theFleming Fjord Formation ofGreenland during theRhaetian age of theLate Triassic epoch. Thetype and only species isMitredon cromptoni.[1]
Mitredon is known only from a singleholotype specimen, MGUH VP 3392, which consists of a partialdentary bone preserving several incompletepostcanine teeth. These teeth have fully divided roots, a feature shared withSinoconodon and themammaliaforms, but the teeth ofMitredon are distinguished from these by possessing compressed and recurved cusps akin to those of thechiniquodontids.[1]
