Mitchell Wilson Lichtenstein (born March 10, 1956) is an American actor, writer, producer, and director.
The son of Isabel (née Wilson) andRoy Lichtenstein,[1] he studied acting atBennington College in Vermont.[1] His father is of Jewish background.
Mitchell's first film role was in the 1983 filmLords of Discipline, filmed largely atWellington College in the UK. InAng Lee's filmThe Wedding Banquet (1993), Lichtenstein played the partner of a gay Taiwanese man living in the United States who is forced to marry by his parents.[2] Other film acting credits includeStreamers, for which he and other members of the castGuy Boyd,George Dzundza,David Alan Grier,Matthew Modine andMichael Wright were awarded theVolpi Cup for Best Actor from theVenice Film Festival.[3]
He produced, wrote, and directed the 2007black comedy horror filmTeeth, about the pitfalls and power of a girl as a living example of thevagina dentata myth. The film premiered at the 2007Sundance Film Festival to positive reviews.[4]
His filmHappy Tears premiered at theBerlin International Film Festival in 2009.[5] His filmAngelica was selected to be screened in the Panorama section of the65th Berlin International Film Festival.[6]
